The Boston Globe profiles an emerging trend in cities across the country, a noticeable reduction in the number of homeless veterans living on their streets.
In fact, four cities—Houston, Las Vegas, New Orleans and Philadelphia—have almost eliminated veteran homelessness, using a variety of programs. Another 18 cities have reached the goal of having a “functional zero” veteran homeless rate, according to the U.S. Interagency Council on Homelessness.
From the Boston Globe: “Five years ago, New York counted 4,677 veterans in shelters, transitional housing, and on the streets. By Feb. 22 this year, the number had fallen to 489, according to Mayor Bill de Blasio’s office.”
